4th Grade

WE ARE AVAILABLE
MONDAY through FRIDAY 9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.

TO TALK WITH YOU OR YOUR FAMILIES!!!

It’s hard to put into words our feelings when we heard that school would be closed for the rest of the year. We are sad.  We’re going to be honest; we cried when we found out that we would not be together again this year.  Maybe you cried too; maybe you didn’t.  Either way, it’s okay to feel whatever you feel right now.  We have lost time together, and we didn’t even get to say goodbye.  This may seem unfair.  It makes our hearts heavy just thinking about it, but everything is going to be okay.

Things may seem difficult and confusing during this time, but it’s important to focus on the positive.  Right now, we are being called upon to be caring and kind humans and help take care of each other and the world by sacrificing our time together.  We can do this.  We find joy in knowing that we still get to be your teachers for the rest of your fourth-grade year (even though it may look different).  We are excited to take on new challenges and see you grow.

We are missing your smiles, hugs, laughter, and jokes.  We would give anything to tell you it’s getting too loud, and it’s time to focus.  To tell you we are proud of you.  That we love you.  No matter what the rest of this year brings, know that you will forever be a part of our hearts.  We are still here for you as your teachers.  We will see each other again, we promise.  This will be one school year we will never forget.  Know that you are strong, smart, brave, and can do anything you put your mind to!  We are still, and always will be, a family.  You are “our kids” and you will always be the “Fabulous 4th Grade.”

We have been working hard trying to arrange for you and your parents to receive emails, Remind App messages, Live Grades, and phone calls.  Our goal is to talk with each one of you at least once a week.  That means that you may call any of us anytime between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.  If we do not answer, please leave a message, so we can call you back.  The county is working hard to create and develop the best learning materials for you to complete away from our classroom at Ranson Elementary School.  We will be assigning these on Google Classroom, which we will tell you more about soon.  Just be sure to check Live Grades and the Remind App OFTEN for our updates.

FROM MRS. SHEPARD/ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS:

On the last day of school, I gave you a couple of chapter books and a Reader’s Response sheet.  I hope you have had an opportunity to read from your books and begin writing thoughtful responses.  If you finished your Reader Response sheet or your Book Project, you may take a picture of them and send them to me through my email susan.shepard@k12.wv.us, Live Grades, or the Remind App.  In addition to the chapter books you took home, you are always free to Log on to EPIC and read some of the books that I suggested and some of your choice.  There are no guidelines for this activity; it is optional but will be helpful in keeping your literacy skills fresh.  I hope you will take the opportunity to explore and search topics that you enjoy reading about. In case you forgot, the class code for EPIC is: qta3252.

FROM MRS. KUBIC/MATH:

If you have your work completed that was in the packet, please scan (one way is in “Notes” in your phone.  Open a new note, click on the camera, then “scan” all pages, and email to me at rkubic@k12.wv.us) or take a picture of each page INCLUDING YOUR NAME AND THE PAGE NUMBER, please. If you have not finished, use this week to do so.  Optional, but encouraged: Imagine Learning (has teaching, practice, and even live teacher help right on there, and I can monitor and add review & enrichment lessons as I see you progress) and ZEARN (also has great lessons that “unfold” concepts slowly and have practice). Contact Mrs. Kubic if you need your usernames or passwords.

FROM MRS. MOSSBURG/SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, HEALTH:

On the last day of school, I gave you a folder with two weeks’ worth of work. We hope you had the opportunity to complete these, but if you did not, I hope you use this week to finish those. We are not assigning new work, only providing this week as a “catch up time.” If you have completed the work, please take a picture of it and you can send it to me through my email mmossburg@k12.wv.us, LiveGrades, or the Remind App. I did provide new assigned Brainpops on Brainpop Jr. If you would like to use this time to work on those as extra support, you may! This is not a required assignment, but just to give you extra opportunity to review things we have already learned about or learn new things we were going to learn later in the year. If you wish to do these, remember to sign in using CLEVER. Your username is your lunch number and the password is “rockets.” This will be added to your grade if you complete them, but again will not count against you if you do not.

Finally, the teachers at Ranson Elementary are working hard to learn new methods for teaching you online and we are excited to share these with you the week after Spring Break.  Please take some time and check out the RES Website.  We look forward to keeping in touch with you!  We hope to hear about at least one special thing you did with your family to bring a little laughter to your life when we talk on the phone.

Always remember you are kind, smart, and very important to Mrs. Kubic, Mrs. Mossburg, and Mrs. Shepard!
