Ms. Karen Grant
Fifth Grade Teacher

I grew up in Livermore California.  I came back to the east coast to attend college.  I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. Then I went on to earn my Masters in Computer Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca New York.  We lived in Camden, New Jersey for 10 years.  I taught math and computer science courses at Camden County College and Rutgers University part time for about 10 years.  When we moved to West Virginia I went to Shepherd University and earned my Masters in Teaching and got my elementary teaching certification.
I taught 5th grade at Ranson starting back in 2004 for 2 years.  I taught kindergarten at South Jefferson for 5 years.  I came back to Ranson, and then I taught P-1 and first grade for 3 years.  I was math interventionist for 5 years and now I have come full circle, and I am teaching 5th grade this year.  On Saturdays I work at the farmers market in Charles Town.  I am learning a lot about plants, fresh fruit, and vegetables.
I have 3 beautiful daughters.  My oldest is an Optician/Visual Therapy Assistant, my middle is earning her PhD at Rice University but is currently conducting her research at MIT in Massachusetts.  And, my youngest daughter is in nursing school at Samuel Merit in California.  I love math!  I love reading, hanging with family, going to the movies, working in flower gardens, and encouraging kids to become the best that they can be.
Whatever you do, always do your best and be your best!
